Heating in Buffalo is a long-season job, and the system has to keep going through lake-effect storms and single-digit nights. Vantage repairs, installs, replaces and maintains furnaces, and also works on boilers and heat pumps from our base in Orchard Park.
NOAA’s 1991-2020 normals put Buffalo at about 6,466 heating degree days a year. Pick the page below that matches your situation, or call (321) 666-8870 and describe what the house is doing.

What is included with heating
- Furnace repair for no heat, cold air, short cycling and ignition faults
- Furnace installation and replacement sized from a Manual J load calculation
- Seasonal furnace maintenance with a carbon monoxide safety focus
- Boiler and heat pump service, each covered on its own page
- A clear quote before work starts and an honest repair-or-replace opinion
Which heating service do you need?
Each service has its own page, because a dead furnace in February and a September tune-up are different conversations.
- No heat or weak heat: start with furnace repair.
- A first furnace, a new floor or a fuel change: read about furnace installation.
- An aging furnace that keeps failing: see furnace replacement.
- A safety and efficiency check before winter: book furnace maintenance.
- Radiators or baseboard hot water: see boiler repair and boiler replacement.
- Electric heat and cooling in one system: read about heat pump repair and heat pump installation.

How hard does a Buffalo winter work a heating system?
Very hard. NOAA’s normals show about 124 nights a year at or below 32°F and about 50 at or below 20°F, as reported by MyWild.Report, and the heating season runs roughly September 19 to May 31.
Housing adds to the load. Census data via Point2Homes shows about 61 percent of City of Buffalo housing units were built in 1939 or earlier, so many systems serve drafty houses with old chimneys and boilers. Lake-effect drifts also bury the vent pipes of newer furnaces. Our post on what to check on a furnace vent after snow covers it.

Furnace, boiler or heat pump: what fits which house?
We do not push one type. If your furnace is sound, we say so. Our post on heat pumps versus furnaces in New York shows how we weigh the choice.
“I've known John for a long time, very kind and knowledgeable.Hes always helped me understand why my furnace stopped working and why my ac was not performing well.”
Is it safe to keep running a heating system that worries you?
For anything short of that, a failing system is better shut off and looked at. Our office hours are Monday through Friday, 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Outside those hours, call anyway and leave a message.

Heating questions
Do you work on boilers as well as furnaces?
Yes. Customers have had us install a boiler and a radiant kitchen floor, and diagnose baseboard heat and an old steam boiler. Older Buffalo houses often run on radiators, so hot water and steam heat are everyday work for us.
When should I call about heating instead of waiting?
Call as soon as the system does something new: a different noise, a delayed start, cold rooms, or an unreliable ignitor. Small faults caught in September are calmer to fix than a failure on a single-digit night. Anything involving a gas smell or a carbon monoxide alarm is an emergency and goes to National Fuel or 911.
How much does heating service cost in Buffalo?
We do not publish a price list, because the figure depends on the part, the equipment and the access. You get a clear quote before any work starts, and you can say no. For larger decisions such as replacement, we lay out the options side by side.
