Vantage Heating and Cooling is a small, locally owned HVAC company based in Orchard Park, New York. We have been working in Western New York homes since 2011, which makes this our 15th year.

We built this company around a simple idea: help homeowners choose the right solution for their home and budget. That means quality workmanship, honest recommendations and fair pricing, without the high-pressure sales tactics people have come to expect from this trade.

The owner answers the phone

Vantage is run by John, who customers also know as Johnny. It is his name you will see all through our reviews, because he is usually the one who picks up, comes out and explains what is going on. One customer called it “a small family business” after working with John and his brother, and that is a fair description of how we operate.

“They installed all of the new equipment in roughly two full days, and I have a comfortable home in the summer time for the first time ever.”
Joshua R., Google review, 2021

Being small has real advantages for you. The person pricing your job is the person who answers for it. There is no call center between you and the person doing the work.

What we work on

Our core work is residential: furnace replacement, air conditioning installation, heat pump installation, boiler replacement, ductwork and HVAC repair. Reviews from our customers also mention tune-ups, humidifiers, air purifiers, wifi thermostats, radiant heat, baseboard systems and water heaters. See the full list on our homepage.

Landlords and property owners call us as well. Doubles, rentals and homes with two systems are a regular part of the work around here.

What a first visit looks like

Most relationships with us start with one phone call about one problem. We ask what the system is doing, how old it is and when you are home. Then we come out, test it and walk you through what we found. That might mean a look at the furnace with you in the basement, or a few minutes at the outdoor unit with the panel off.

You get a clear quote before any work starts, and you decide from there. If a repair makes sense, we say so. If an old unit is near the end of its life, we tell you that as well, and we talk through options that fit the house and the budget. Customers tell us they keep our number after that first call, and many have come back for a tune-up, a second property or a neighbor’s system.

Why older homes suit us

Western New York has some of the oldest housing stock in the country. Census data show about 61 percent of housing units in the City of Buffalo were built in 1939 or earlier. So our days include old steam boilers, radiators, drafty Victorians and central air added to houses that were never designed for it.

Licensing and insurance

New York has no statewide HVAC license. Licensing is handled locally, and Erie County Consumer Protection notes that the rules differ from one municipality to the next. The City of Buffalo requires a Heating Contractor license, and the Town of Cheektowaga licenses HVAC contractors. Whoever you hire, ask to see the local license and proof of insurance for your job. Good contractors expect the question.
