Heating and cooling in East Aurora often starts in the basement, with a boiler. The village was founded in 1804 and incorporated in 1874, according to Wikipedia, and many of its older houses have heating systems that have been patched, extended and replaced over decades.
We are about 20 minutes away in Orchard Park, and East Aurora is on our Google profile’s service list. We handle boilers, furnaces and central air, but this village is where boiler knowledge counts most.
Boilers, radiators and snow in a village that dates to 1804
ABC7 New York listed 51.3 inches for East Aurora after the November 2022 storm, against 36.6 inches at the Buffalo airport. The village sits well into the Southtowns snow country, so a heating system here carries a long season. A boiler that was marginal in a mild year becomes a failure in a hard one.
A hot-water boiler is a closed loop with a circulator pump, an expansion tank, a pressure relief valve and a mix of baseboard, cast-iron radiators or both. Cold radiators can come from trapped air, a failed pump, a stuck valve or sludge, and the cure for each is different. We trace the loop from the boiler outward and show you what we find.
Not every old radiator runs on hot water. A steam system has a sight glass on the boiler and an air vent on each radiator, while a hot-water radiator has a small bleed screw. We identify which you have first, because the fix for a cold radiator differs. Wikipedia counts 2,701 housing units in just 2.52 square miles here, so a large share of the village is the older housing this advice is written for.

The village is home to the Roycroft Campus, a National Historic Landmark since 1986, and the Millard Fillmore House on Shearer Avenue. Main Street carries US 20A and NY 16, and the East Branch of Cazenovia Creek runs through the south part. Houses of this age are exactly where our boiler repair work and honest repair-or-replace advice get used.
Services East Aurora homes ask for most

Boiler visits: what we check and what you will see
We look at the boiler’s age, its water pressure, the pump, the venting and the condition of the fittings, and we ask how the house has behaved in cold snaps. If a radiator or baseboard zone is cold, we trace why. You get an explanation of the fault and a clear quote before we change anything.
Weekday hours run 7:30 AM to 5:00 PM, and the drive from Orchard Park takes about 20 minutes. Call first and we will say honestly when we can arrive.

Oakwood Avenue, Knox Farm and where a permit gets filed
The Aurora Municipal Center at 575 Oakwood Avenue houses a shared Town and Village building and code enforcement office. The office checks permits against the 2020 New York State codes and requires a Certificate of Occupancy or Compliance when a permitted job is finished. The Town page lists its number as (716) 652-7591, so call it with your address before work is scheduled.
Wikipedia places the 633-acre Knox Farm State Park on the village’s northwest edge, and notes that Fisher-Price began in East Aurora and keeps its headquarters there. The East Aurora Union Free School District runs Parkdale Elementary, the middle school and the high school. We ask how long you have lived with the system, because its history tells us as much as its gauges.

East Aurora heating and cooling questions
How do I decide between repairing and replacing a boiler in an East Aurora house?
Age is part of it, but condition and repair history matter more. Leaks at fittings, rust, short cycling and repeated pump or valve failures push toward replacement. A sound boiler with one worn part is often worth repairing. We explain what we find, price both paths, and let you choose with the real numbers in front of you.
Why are some of my radiators cold while others are hot?
Trapped air is the most common cause, and bleeding the radiator can fix it. If bleeding does not help, the cause may be a failed circulator, a closed or stuck valve, or sludge in the loop. A single cold radiator and a whole cold zone are different problems, so tell us which one you have when you call.
Do I need to check on contractor rules in the Town of Aurora?
Erie County says the Town of Aurora requires contractors to have liability, workers’ compensation and disability insurance on file with its Building Department. It is reasonable to ask that office what it holds for anyone you hire. New York has no statewide HVAC license, so local rules are what apply.
